Chandelier Size Guide
General Chandelier Guidlines:
In an open area – bottom of fixture shouldn’t hang lower than 7’
Over a table – bottom of fixture should hang 30-32” above table top
How to pick the right size Chandelier:
Measure the length and width of the room in feet and add those two measurements together. The answer would be the approximate diameter chandelier you’d want in inches.
Example: A room that is 14’ x 20’ = 34” chandelier diameter.
To determine the proper size chandelier for above a dining room table, look for a chandelier with a diameter that is 50% of the table width or greater. This assumes the table is sized appropriately for the room size.
For a 9’ or taller ceiling, consider a chandelier with 2+ tiers. This helps fill up the space from the ceiling to the bottom of the chandelier.

How much light output is right based on room size?
Multiply the room dimensions to get your total square footage (12 x 16 = 192). Then multiply the square footage by 22.5 lumens for total lumens needed (192 x 22.5 = 4,320 Lumens).
Lumens can be found on all bulb types and they tell you what the actual light output will be. A standard 60 watt incandescent bulb is around 900 lumens; a 100 watt bulb is about 1600 lumens. LED’s and Fluorescent bulbs will have a much lower wattage, but their lumen output will be similar to incandescent. This means they use less energy, but put out the same amount of light.
Pendant Size Guide
General Pendant Guidlines:
In an open area – bottom of fixture shouldn’t hang lower than 7’ above floor.
Over a table or counter – bottom of fixture should hang 28-34” above table/counter top.
How to pick the right size pendant:
Measure the length of the island or table in inches
(example: 50” wide)
Determine how many pendants you want and the diameter of each. Add them up for a combined diameter
(example: 2 pendants at 15” diameter = 30”)
Subtract the combined diameter from the length of the island
(example: 50” – 30” = 20”)
To account for space between the pendants and the end of the counters, add 1 to your pendant count. Then divide your subtracted value by your adjusted pendant count (20” ÷ 3 = 6.67”) to find the ideal space between each pendant.
Pro Tip:
For larger pendants, go with an even number and aim for each pendant to be approximately 1/3 the width of the island or table.
For small to medium sized pendants, aim to hang them 65”-72” off the floor to the bottom of the fixture.

Outdoor Wall Size Guide
Entry/Front Door Lighting Guidelines:
Wall Lights should be 1/6 – 1/4 the height of the front door
Wall Lights should be hung and eye level – the center of the light source should measure 5.5’ – 6’ from the ground
Garage Lighting Guidelines:
Wall Lights should be 1/6 - 1/4 the height of the garage door.
One light for a single car garage.
One light on either side of a two-car garage – or consider putting 3 lights evenly spaced above the garage door for even illumination.
Pro Tip:
Still not sure about the size? Find a piece of cardboard and make a simple template in the height/width of the fixture you like. Hold it up where it will be installed and see how that size looks in the space.
